Öğe Contemporary analysis of design approaches in historical context: Transformation of an industry building into an exhibition building(Peter Lang AG, 2020) Akansel S.The study covers the conversion and re-functioning of the Old Cheese Factory located in the south of Edirne Kaleiçi district. Design criteria are evaluated by the history of Edirne, environmental factors determining the circulation character, road grading, building heights, determination of the functions through the facade characters, and applying them to the historical structure. The approaches that should be observed while making a contemporary addition in historical texture demonstrate similarities with historical structure, differences, advantages and disadvantages in terms of design, strength, and aesthetic positionings. The transformation process of an old industry building is read through the theoreticians' inclusive approaches, marking the necessities of exhibition methodologies in contemporary museology and a larger scope of accessibility. In the proceeding steps of the project, the contemporary annex is read with functional plan solutions, including the historical details of the facade. In this direction, exits, breaks, splits, and divisions are utilized to create a dynamic duel of old and new equilibrium. It is ensured that the project can be transformed in the direction of the thematic potential that the exhibition function will allow. The public potential of the new structure includes the factors that can play a role in the transformation of the scope of contemporary programs. © Peter Lang AG 2020.Öğe The effects of river on the urban development and water structures of edirne(Peter Lang AG, 2019) Akansel S.Rivers, as natural thresholds, have redirector role on urban planning and Edirne is one of the examples of these cities. Tunca and Meriç Rivers have been determinative in the process of urban formation of Edirne. In the connection to outer world, these rivers have either restrictive or binding roles. Hadrianopolis as located along the river side in ancient Rome, after dominated by Ottoman Empire as a castle city, locations like Gazi Mihal, Yildirim and Sarayiçi are also along the river side as new settlement places. Rivers were the thresholds in the extension of Edirne in the Ottoman era. Edirne is a city rich in water, it is known that, political power has also contributed to build Beyazit complex along the water side where patients get cured by sounds of water. Otherwise, villas which had been located on the riverside in the Ottoman era point out the water-city structure of Edirne in the Ottoman time period. Nowadays, although most of the architectural values gained by water have been lost, it can be documented that Edirne was a water-city. © Peter Lang AG 2019.Öğe Evaluation of Ergonomic Design Principles in Primary School Classrooms(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2023) Kiran Çakir H.; Akansel S.; Minez B.Education is extremely important in the individual development of children. Children spend most of their time in educational institutions during the day. Considering that this environment greatly affects the learning performance of the individual, it is clear that the spaces should be arranged according to ergonomic conditions. Ergonomics is a discipline that provides optimum design for the performance of individuals within the framework of the mutual interaction of the individual, equipment and spatial solution. From this point of view, it is aimed to investigate to what extent the arrangement of classrooms in primary schools according to ergonomic design principles affects student productivity. In the methodology of the study, first of all, a literature review was made. In order to evaluate the intended spatial organization and comfort conditions, two surveys were conducted with equal numbers of students from different classes and genders in the classrooms of Edirne Babademirtas District Gazi Primary School. The first is intended to measure the ergonomic design principles (EDP) in classrooms, and the second is to measure the effect of these principles on increasing students’ productivity and psychological comfort (ISPPC). In this context, three basic assumptions have been made. In order to evaluate these assumptions numerically, four representation assumptions were created. The obtained data were evaluated using descriptive statistical methods (T- Test, Multiple Linear Regression Analysis, Pearson Correlation Coefficient) in SPSS. The results are based on representation assumptions. It has been determined that the productivity of the students is also positively affected if the appropriate educational environment is provided in the classrooms. © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.
