Özet
The study covers the conversion and re-functioning of the Old Cheese Factory located in the south of Edirne Kaleiçi district. Design criteria are evaluated by the history of Edirne, environmental factors determining the circulation character, road grading, building heights, determination of the functions through the facade characters, and applying them to the historical structure. The approaches that should be observed while making a contemporary addition in historical texture demonstrate similarities with historical structure, differences, advantages and disadvantages in terms of design, strength, and aesthetic positionings. The transformation process of an old industry building is read through the theoreticians' inclusive approaches, marking the necessities of exhibition methodologies in contemporary museology and a larger scope of accessibility. In the proceeding steps of the project, the contemporary annex is read with functional plan solutions, including the historical details of the facade. In this direction, exits, breaks, splits, and divisions are utilized to create a dynamic duel of old and new equilibrium. It is ensured that the project can be transformed in the direction of the thematic potential that the exhibition function will allow. The public potential of the new structure includes the factors that can play a role in the transformation of the scope of contemporary programs. © Peter Lang AG 2020.
