Nonlinear Principle Components Analysis (NLPCA) to Determine Preferences of Academic Staff: Preference Maps

Bu çalışmada, Trakya Üniversitesi Fakültelerinde görev yapan 936 akademik personele 86 soru içeren anket uygulanarak, tercihlerini belirlemek için "Fakültenizin eksiklikleri nelerdir?" sorusu analiz edildi. Cevaplar, 1'den (en çok tercih edilen) 6'ya (en az tercih edilen) kadar sıralandı. Tercihlerin belirlenmesinde Doğrusal Olmayan Temel Bileşenler Analizinin sıralı çözümü kullanıldı. İki boyutlu çözümlemede birinci boyutun varyansın %73.24'ünü, ikinci boyutun varyansın %26.75'ini açıkladığı bulundu. Açıklanan toplam varyans %99.99'dur. Birinci ve ikinci boyutlardaki Cronbach á katsayıları da sırasıyla 0.93 ve 0.45 olarak bulundu. Sıralı çözümün sonucuna göre, Mühendislik-Mimarlık ve Ziraat Fakültelerinin en çok laboratuara, İktisadi İdari Bilimler ve Fen-Edebiyat Fakültelerinin en çok kütüphaneye gereksinimleri olduğu bulundu. Daha iyi bir eğitim için fakülte yöneticileri bu eksiklikleri gidermelidirler.
In this study, 86 questions was asked 936 academic staff working at the Faculties of Trakya University in 2001 and we used only one question, "What are the deficiencies of your faculty?", to determine preferences of academic staff. The answers were ranked from 1 (most preferred) to 6 (least preferred). Ordinal solution of Nonlinear Principal Components Analysis (NLPCA) is performed to determine the preferences. As a result of two-dimensional solution explained variances in the first and second dimension were found 73.24 % and 26.75 % respectively. The explained total variance was found 99.99 %. Also Cronbach coefficients á in the first and second dimensions were found 0.93 and 0.45 respectively. According to the result of ordinal solution, laboratory is the most required for the faculties of Engineering and Agriculture; computer and library is the most required for the faculties of Economics and Science. The directors of these faculties must be aware of these deficiencies and supply them for a better education as soon as possible.
