The pharmacoogical activity of metal complexes of the drug agents has been a subjet of great interest recently. Carvedilol, an antihypertensive agent, has been in ckinical use for several years. In additions to its function as a ? -blocker, has been shown to act as an antioxidant. In this study, the drug agent, carvedilol which has got potantial nitrogen donor atoms was used as a ligand. Complexes of this ligand with Cu2+, Zn2+, Mn2+ and Ni2+ salts were prepared. Their structures were also explained on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, atomic absorption determination, thermogravimetric measurements, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity.Levocetirizine (as levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is a third-generation antihistamine. Three copper(II), manganes (II) and zinc (II) complexes of levocetirizine have been prepared. The compounds were characterized by IR, atomic absorption determination, thermogravimetric measurements, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity. In allof the complexes, the drug ligand, levocetirizine was coordinated through twocarbonyl oxygen atoms. All the newly synthesized complexes coordinated with the metals were screened for their antibacterial effect. In vitro tests of susceptibility to all these metal complexes showed stronger activity than that of carvedilol and levocetirizine against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans.
