Özet

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect on bone-mineral density (BMD) of perindopril as an antihypertensive treatment in conjunction with osteoporosis treatment in hypertensive postmenopausal women. Material and Methods: Seventy postmenopausal women treated with alendronate were enrolled in this study. Menopausal women with osteoporosis and mild or moderate hypertension were administered perindopril 4 mg/day, alendronate 70 mg/week and calcium 1000 mg/day (group 1; n= 36 patients). The other group consisted of postmenopausal women without hypertension treated by alendronate 70 mg/week and calcium 1000 mg/day (group 2; n= 34 patients). BMD of patients was evaluated before and after 1 year of treatment. Results: BMD results suggested significant improvements in L2-L4, L2 and L4 scores in both groups after 1 year of treatment. For the L3 score, although there was no difference in group 1, improvement was detected in group 2. In the trochanter region, we did not observe a significant improvement in any group; however, significant improvement was detected in the femur neck only in group 2. There was no significant difference in BMD values between the two groups after treatment (p> 0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, according to the results of 1-year treatment, the use of perindopril for concurrent hypertension in patients using alendronate for postmenopausal osteoporosis does not have a clear negative effect on BMD values.
