Öğe Global Web Trends Analysis of Minimally Invasive Urinary Stone Treatment in the Last Decade and During the COVID-19 Pandemic(Mary Ann Liebert, Inc, 2022) Madendere, Serdar; Deger, Muslim Dogan; Aktoz, TevfikWith the rising incidence of urinary stone disease, web searches for stone treatments are increasing. Google Trends (GT) data for a 10-year period and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic were used to investigate the trend variations for the most popular minimally invasive stone therapies based on time and region. GT can create a line graph that shows how interest in various territories has risen or decreased over time. Search terms were generated for extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL), percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), ureterorenoscopy (URS), and laparoscopic pyelolithotomy/ureterolithotomy. Using the global inquiry category, the data were included worldwide from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2021. In recent years, Google and YouTube searches for total minimally invasive stone treatments have increased. RIRS, URS, and PCNL trends revealed a substantial rise in the regression analysis (p < 0.05), but SWL trends showed a significant reduction (p < 0.05). RIRS was the main intervention with interest growing most over time. Web searches for stone treatments decreased in the first period of the COVID-19 pandemic. To a rising degree of involvement, patients and physicians from all over the world utilize the internet to search for minimally invasive stone operations. RIRS, URS, and PCNL are becoming more popular in web trends and SWL still has the highest trend despite the decline in popularity recently. The number of trustworthy web-based tools about stone treatments should be increased, and patients and physicians should be directed to these sources.Öğe Open Partial Nephrectomy in Giant Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma: Presentation of 2 Cases(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Tozsin, Atinc; Deger, Muslim Dogan; Ibrahim, Muhidin Hassan; Aktoz, TevfikRadical nephrectomy is still considered the standard treatment for clinical T2 (cT2) tumors, but available data mention the potential role of partial nephrectomy in large renal tumors (=cT2) in selected cases. Because of the increased risk of complications in large masses, the decision for partial nephrectomy should be taken together with an experienced surgeon and a multidisciplinary team. We report two cases with giant renal tumor, that partially resected and final histopathological examination revealed papillary renal cell carcinoma. Considering the risk of developing kidney failure secondary to diabetes and hypertension in both our patients, partial nephrectomy was initially considered and successfully treated with nephron-sparing surgery.Öğe Pioglitazone Eases Testicular Torsion/Detorsion-Induced Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Senturk, Irfan Yildirim; Deger, Muslim Dogan; Aydin, Muhammed Ali; Madendere, Serdar; Kaya, Oktay; Tastekin, Ebru; Aktoz, TevfikObjective: This study demonstrated the protective effects of pioglitazone (Pio) on testicular torsion/detorsion-induced ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury.Materials and Methods: A total of 48 male rats were randomly divided into six experimental groups of eight rats each; Control group, I/R group, Pio 3 mg/kg group, I/R treated with Pio 3 mg/kg group, Pio 6 mg/kg group, and I/R treated with Pio 6 mg/kg group. Testicular torsion was induced by twisting the left testis 720 & DEG;C in a clockwise direction (I/R groups). Both ischemia and reperfusion periods were 4 h. Single-dose 3 mg/kg Pio or 6 mg/kg Pio was administered orally two hours before reperfusion (Pio groups). Left orchiectomy was performed at the end of the protocol. Results: In the I/R within-group analysis for mean seminiferous tubule diameter and epithelial lengths, a statistically significant difference was found only in the Pio 6 group (p=0.005; p=0.005). But Pio treatment failed to improve the levels of malondialdehyde and glutathione. Also, it did not cause any change in the non-I/R groups. Conclusion: Considering the findings of Pio, it may be used in emergencies such as torsion and other chronic diseases.
