Özet

Objective We aimed to investigate the effects of COVID 19 on colonoscopy and to investigate what should be considered in the following possible epidemic situations Material and Methods In our study, patients who applied to Trakya University School of Medicine and performed colonoscopy between March 2019 and March 2021 were evaluated, retrospectively Percentages, standard deviation, mean, median, and interquartile range were used as the descriptive statistics Mann Whitney U test was used for the variations which are contrary to the normal distribution range in the comparison of two groups The relations between qualitative variations were studied by the Pearson Chi Square test and Fisher's Exact test The significant value was determined as 0 05 for statistical analyses Results In our study, when we compared the pre Covid and post Covid periods, we observed that the median age did not change The number of patients decreased by 63 3 performing rectosigmoidoscopy ( increased by 8 and patients presenting symptomatic decreased by 8 5 The rates of malignancies detected after COVID 19 increased statistically significantly The mean age of the patients with malignancy was 62 8 and with normal result was 54 5 ( 0 001 In the post Covid period the rate of malignant diagnosis in patients with a previous history of malignant surgery has increased compared to those without a history of surgery ( 0 042 Conclusion In such epidemic periods patients may hesitate to apply to the hospital which may cause the progression of their disease More educated patients and planned health services will enable us to achieve much more efficient results
