The study group of the purposeful research consists of the sixth grade students studying at the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry Primary School in the center of Edirne in the 2020-2021 academic year, and the seventh grade students at Atatürk Secondary School. For the first stage of the research, the scanning method was used. By making a literature review, books, journals, articles, theses, and visual sources related to the subject were examined and the works of related artists were used. In order to collect data, students were first asked to paint portraits in line with their own experiences. Afterwards, the students were given “Portrait in Modern Art” training and they were asked to do their second portrait work. Implementation studies were analyzed according to the criteria and sub-criteria to be used in data analysis. The information obtained from the personal information forms is shown in the tables with frequency and percentage distributions according to demographic variables. In line with the findings obtained in the research, the reflections of portrait paintings interpreted in Modern Art on the creativity of primary school students were observed. Significant improvements were found in the creativity of the students who were given the "Portrait in Modern Art" training. In addition, it can be said that the interest of the students in the visual arts lesson has increased. As a result, it is predicted that presenting the portrait interpretations of modern artists in the subject of portrait in Modern Art, which will be taught in the visual arts courses given in primary schools, supported by theoretical knowledge, will trigger the creativity of the students and strengthen their visual and theoretical knowledge.
