Bagging for hybridization and self fertilization in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is important because of high allogamy. Thus, these procedures are made carefully. In this study, the effects of various bagging materials for self fertilization and hybridization on seed set and yield components of sunflower were determined. The research was conducted in 2003 and 2004 in Tekirdag. Gauze, the first quality kraft paper, the third quality kraft paper, cotton sacs and parchment paper were used as bagging materials. As the results, bagging materials had significant effects on seed set, seed yield, head diameter, seed weight, maturity, disease. The best seed set and seed yield for hybridization were obtained from the first quality kraft paper and gauze; respectively. The first quality kraft paper had the highest seed set and seed yield for self fertilization. Parchment for both procedures had the lowest seed set, seed yield, seed weight. Head diseases were increased by the using cotton sacks.en_US
