People spend an average of one third of their lives sleeping. Sleep hygiene is important for such an important process to be healthier. The aim of our study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of family medicine speciality students in Turkey about sleep hygiene. Our study was conducted online between July-September 2022 with 363 speciality students who accepted to participate in the study and who were working in the Family Medicine departments of all medical faculties and Family Medicine clinics of training and research hospitals throughout Turkey. In the descriptive and cross-sectional questionnaire study, there are 12 questions including sociodemographic characteristics, 63 questions about sleep hygiene prepared by the researchers by reviewing the literature and 9 questions questioning the attitudes of the participants about sleep hygiene, a total of 84 questions. The mean age of the participants was 28.98±3.53 years. 59.2% of the participants were female and 51% were married. The mean of the correct answers given by the participants to the information questions related to age, gender, marital status, having children, chronic disease status, duration in the profession, duration in speciality education, smoking, alcohol use, living with a person with chronic disease in the same household, and living with a person over 65 years of age in the same household were compared. From these comparisons, it was seen that participants who used alcohol gave more correct answers to the information questions than those who did not use alcohol and this difference was statistically significant. 52.4% of the participants were of the opinion that the education they received in medical faculties about sleep and sleep hygiene was not sufficient. 60.1% of the participants thought that their level of knowledge about sleep and sleep hygiene was at an intermediate level. Participants who thought that the education they received in medical schools about sleep and sleep hygiene was adequate gave statistically significantly more correct answers than those who thought it was inadequate. It was observed that the Family Medicine speciality students who participated in our study did not have sufficient knowledge about sleep and sleep hygiene. We believe that increasing the importance given to sleep and sleep hygiene in medical school curricula will help to overcome the deficiencies in this subject. Keywords: sleep hygiene, Family Practice, medical specialty, students, habits
