The concept of companion has become an integral part of hospitals in Turkey. Nursing profession, which is a professional group at the center of care, shares the burden of nursing care with their companions for various reasons. This brings to mind the companions along with the nurses when nursing care or patient care is mentioned. A total of 300 patients who were hospitalized in one internal and one surgical clinic were included in the study. In the study, the data collection form prepared by the researcher and the Orthopedics/Neurology Patient Daily Care Needs Form prepared by the researcher were used. In the study, patients hospitalized in these clinics were visited from the day they were hospitalized until the day they were discharged and their care needs were determined. In the interviews with the companions, it was questioned whether these needs were met and by whom. Number, percentage, ratio and standard deviation values were obtained by using SPSS. As a result of the data obtained, it was concluded that the companions have a high burden in patient care. In the study, it was determined that the biggest burden in the care of hospitalized patients belonged to the patients' companions, and nurses were not involved in patient care, except for a few technical issues in patient care. After the interviews with the companions, the lack of materials, the fact that some care needs were not deemed necessary by the companions, and their ignorance about the care requirement in question were also considered as the reasons for the care that was not performed or could not be performed.
