dc.description.abstractIn this paper, the design and optimization of 4.5 kW inner rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with 400 rpm nominal speed was carried out for belt drive elevator systems. The two most important criteria to be considered in elevator traction motors are to provide high efficiency and passenger comfort. For this reason, a design with a minimum torque ripple was aimed in the IE4 class. Electrical and magnetic modelling of PMSM has been carried out. Based on the acquired limit values and using the 2D finite element method (FEM), the optimization of parameters such as the slot opening (Bs0), magnet thickness (Hmag), embrace (Em), stator tooth thickness (Wth) and air gap (g) was made via genetic algorithm. 18-slot 20-pole PMSM with a torque ripple of 0.37 (SI) and 90.63% efficiency was obtained according to optimization results. © 2021 IEEE.en_US
