Temettuat Defterlerine göre Edirne’de Romanlar

Temettuât defterleri, Tanzimat Döneminde yapılan sayımları ve bu sayımlar neticesinde tutulmuş olan defterleri ihtiva etmektedir. Bu defterler sosyal ve iktisadi açıdan dönemi değerlendirmek için vazgeçilmez bir kaynaktır. Bu çalışmada Temettuât defterlerinden hareketle Edirne merkez, Lalapaşa (Çöke) ve Uzunköprü (Cisr-i Ergene)’de yaşayan Romanların sosyal ve iktisadi yapıları aydınlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. Sosyal açından Romanların nüfusu, şahıs isimleri, lakapları ve meslekleri incelenmiş, iktisadi açıdan ise meslek gelirleri, bağ, bahçe, tarla gelirleri, hayvancılıktan elde edilen gelirler ve ödemiş oldukları vergiler değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerde Romanların Osmanlı adalet anlayışı ile toplum içerisinde üretken ve aktif bir rol aldığı görülmüştür.

Abstract

Temettuat registry books include records of census which were taken under registration during the Tanzimat period. These books are indispensable resources for evaluating the period in terms of social and economic structures. The purpose of this study is to explain, in terms of social and economic life, the structure of Romany who lived in the centre of Edirne, Lalapaşa and Uzunköprü by the help of Temettuat registry books. On the social aspect, Romany population, their names, nicknames and professions were examined. On the other hand, on the economic aspect, their professional income, income from their farms, vineyards and orchards, income from stock farming and taxes they paid were evaluated. According to the data acquired, Romany lived in accordance with the Ottoman sense of justice and played an active and productive role within the society.
