The form and spatial organization of historical gardens represent the artistic features of a period (Ergun and Özge, 2002). Palace gardens built before the 18 th century were very plain and unadorned compared to those built later (Arseven,1970). Selection of land for a Turkish garden was done by considering the effects of climate, environmental conditions and view to capture the beauty and mystery of nature (Evyapan 1991, Erdoğan 1958). Palace gardens were designed as internal and external courtyards of geometrical form. However, the original characteristics of the Turkish garden were changed in the modes of the Renaissance the Baroque gardens in the first half of the eighteenty century. From the mid –nineteenth century, the definitive features of the purely Turkish art of gardening almost vanished (Ergun and Özge, 2002). The aim of this study is to investigate and interprete the manner of the Turkish garden art by using the limited data, which is about to disappear, under the light of archive documents.
