Özet
This research was carried out to determine the effects of different composts and bag volumes on the development of watermelon seedling during growing season in 1995 in Tekirdag. The experiment was done with the seven different composts and four bag volumes which were arranged according to factorial randomized block design with three replications.Four composts were prepared in Tekirdag Agricultural Faculty, Horticultural Department and contained farmyard manure (FM), soil (S), perlite (P) or river sand (RS), [ C-1=FM+S+RS(2:1:1); C-2=FM+S+P(2:1:2); C-3=FM+S+P(2:1:1); C-4=FM+S+RS(2:1:2) ]. Others were provided from commercial firms (C-5=Compost of VSB; C-6=Triohum potgrand H compost; C-7=Compost of Imamoglu). The volumes of used bag were 200ml (V-1), 400ml (V-2), 600ml (V-3) or 800ml (V-4) The parameters studied were as follows: fresh weight, dry weight, stem diameter, stem height, root length and root weight. The highest values were obtained from V4C6 with respect to all criteria except root length.
