Turkey is accepted as one of the seven self-sufficient food producing countries in the world. Its suitable ecological advantages and the agricultural potentials in Turkey have helped the development of the food processing sector which utilities highly perishable agricultural produce and offer them to the consumers in more usable forms. The vegetable processing sector in the research area is more developed compared to the other agriculture-based industries due to the large scale of open-field vegetable production opportunities. This sector plays an important role in creating employment, development of rural life, providing value-added production in the region. However, the problems faced especially on obtaining higher quality standards and adequate quantity of raw material, handling, transport, storage, market uncertainties, price fluctuations have forced both the producers and processing industry to come together in contact-farming organisations. This research has been conducted in Southern Marmara Region, which has the most greatest open-field vegetable production area in Turkey. Necessary information was obtained via face-to-face contract by using questionnaires with the 11 firms involved in the processing sector which were open to communication and the producers have been using contract-farming in 17 villages (five of each). Ways of improving development are suggested.en_US
