THE EFFECT OF LINEAR POLARISED POLYCHROMATIC LIGHT ON EXPERIMENTAL BURN HEALING IN RATS SUMMARY In this study, effects of a physical therapy agent, called LPPI, on burn healing were investigated. Twenty one SD rats were used in this controlled, single blind experimental study. As one rat died due to an unidentified reason, the study was carried with 20 rats. The burns were divided into two groups. The treatment group were treated with open dressing, LPPI and antibacterial pomade twice a day during 14 days. The burns in the control group were treated the same except for LPPI application. Bum healing were assessed during 21 days. Healing was evaluated macroscopically and histopathologically according to accepted scoring systems. Macroscopic parameters evaluated were; healing rate, area of healing, edema, hyperemia and epithelialization, while the histopathologic parameters obtained from serial biopsies were epithelialization, granulation, inflammation and vascularization. Total scoring system evaluated the whole hystopathological healing. Macroscopic healing rate and epithelialization were much more in the LPPI treated group (p<0,05). Area of burn, hyperemia and edema were lower in the treatment group (p<0,05). In the hystopathological evaluation epithelialization was much more in the treatment group and the difference between the groups was significant on the 7th day. Vascularization was higher in the LPPI treated group and the difference between the groups were found to be significant on the 21st day. There was no difference between the groups in terms of 59granulation tissue formation and inflammation (p>0,05). According to the total scoring system, healing was more significant in LPPI treated group after the first week (p<0,05). As a result, it was determined that LPPI use was found to be effective on burn healing especially during the first week. The results, seems to be parallel with the current literature. 60
