Özet

This study aims to analyze the paintings of two prominent artists, namely Francis Bacon, a British artist that was one of the most important figurative artists of the 20th century, and Willem de Kooning, the Dutch American artist who was one of the pioneers of Abstract Art and who left his mark on the 20th century, as regards the use of deformation. The concepts of image and deformation were defined prior to the analysis of the works of art. Following the analysis of the paintings by the two artists, the social, cultural, and artistic environment of the 20th century was described. The paintings of Bacon and Kooning bearing the traces of the 20th century were analyzed as regards their style and content using the descriptive research methodology. The scope of the research was kept limited to the works of art of Bacon and Kooning, and verbal and visual material such as relevant literature, books, articles, journals, dissertations, and papers were reviewed for the purposes of analysis, and the findings were presented in the conclusion.
