dc.description.abstract | Emir Timur is an important figure in oral culture as well as written culture. The oral tradition about Timur has had different views in different geographies. In this study, answers are sought to the questions of how Timur's image is in Chuvash folklore, what is the source of this image, and how this image is used in the construction process of modern Chuvash identity. For this purpose, the source of the image of Timur is questioned within the framework of the common oral culture in the Volga-Ural region, and the reflections of the distinctive features of Chuvash folklore in the narratives about Timur are analized. Then, it is pointed out how the perception of Timur in the modern literary was used for the purpose of identity construction, just like in the Timurnâma tradition, but with a different imagination. © 2022 Hacettepe University 1.
