Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease that increases bone fragility, characterized by a decrease in bone mass, and deterioration in its microarchitecture. In the study, we aimed to evaluate the knowledge level of residents in Trakya University School of Medicine about osteoporosis. The study was conducted wtih 248 participants. A questionnaire consisting sociodemographic characteristics and questions about osteoporosis were applied to the participants in the study. Relationships between categorical variables were examined using the Chi-square test. Two-Sample T test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test and Spearman correlation analysis were used for statistical analysis and p value <0.05 was considered statisticaly significant. There was a significant difference between the awareness of FRAX score and the departments. (p = 0.042). We did not find a relationship between the awareness of FRAX score and gender of the participants, family history of osteoporosis, patient examination and residents years of seniority. The average number of correct answers given by the participants to the knowledge questions were found to be 24.62 ± 6.02. We found a significant relationship between the number of correct answers given by the participants and theeir departments (p = 0.009). We also found a significant relationship between the number of correct answers they gave and their being aware of FRAX score (p <0.001). We did not find a relationship between the number of correct answers given by the participants and their gender, family history of osteoporosis, patient examination, and residents years of seniority. Osteoporosis progresses quietly until fractures occur. With the effect of public health and increasing treatment costs, studies aimed to prevent osteoporosis rather than it’s treatment have gained importance all over the world. It is important to know and control risk factors to prevent osteoporosis.
