Preservation level of the historical structures that constitute our cultural heritage contributes to the formation of physical environment and the fabric that was shaped with these structures is the indicator of development level of the societies as well as constitution of their social, political, and economic characteristics. Rapid and unplanned urbanization, developing technology, and population growth in modern days cause the fabric constituted by the historical structures to be damaged or even to disappear in time. Recently, applications of re-functionalizing and preserving the genuine historical structures that lost their functions and considered to be cultural and aesthetic values in order to ensure social and cultural sustainability are widely seen in our country as in whole world. Particularly the historical structures that became parts of the city centers as a result of rapid urbanization are started to be re-functionalized with this sense of protection. When sense of re-functionalizing and preserving the historical structures is considered specific to the term "sustainability," it can be said that the contribution of the new function to the social and cultural sustainability is the contribution to the continuity of the function and to sustaining the structure. In this study in which the contributions of the functions that were given to the structures to the social and cultural sustainability will be researched, Mihran Hanim Mansion that today serves as a "boutique hotel" is chosen as the fieldwork. © Peter Lang AG 2020.en_US
