Özet

The basic agenda of a learning situation includes learners and educators to deal with the essential conditions of learning. Learners need to learn for getting information in any field by interacting with various sources such as educators, materials, other learners, educational policies, world knowledge, learning tasks and experiences. In this complicated process, the pedagogical concerns of educators are based on the basic questions What do learners need to know? and How can they accomplish learning? In order to identify the issue of learning as regards those questions, the contents of courses are designed and teaching strategies are determined. From the first half of the 20(th) century onwards, some learning theories have been put forward, and teaching methods and course designs have been shaped as consistent with those theories. Three main sets of those learning theories which are behaviourism, cognitivism, and constructivism are the focus of this chapter. These learning theories are defined and compared as an opening pathway to a holistic view for learning and teaching settings.
