Abstract
A simple preconcentration method is described for the determination of Fe, Mn, Cu and Cr in water samples by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Montmorillonite by the addition of tributyl phosphate was used as adsorbent for column studies. The influences of aqueous solution pH, amount of montmorillonite, as well as flow-rates of adsorption and elution of sample solutions were studied. The present method was found to be applicable to preconcentrate Fe, Mn, Cu and Cr in natural water samples with good results (R.S.D. 3-8%, N=10). The detection limits for Fe, Mn, Cu and Cr were found to be 0.09, 0.23, 0.16 and 0.19 mu g/l; respectively. The adsorption capacities for Fe, Mn, Cu and Cr were calculated to be 14.5, 10.4, 16.0 and 13.6 mg/g, respectively.
