Özet
This research was carried out between 1998 and 2000 at the University of Trakya, Faculty of Agriculture, Tekirdag, Turkey. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of cutting dates and row distances on herb yield and some morphological characters in Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum L.). The experiment was laid out in a two factor factorial in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Four row distances (20, 30, 40 and 50 cm) and three cutting dates (budding,1/4 bloom and full-bloom) were used. Measurements were done for each of the cutting dates and row distances, The morphological characters (plant height, number of shoots, diameter of main stem, leaves/main stem, leaf length, leaflet width, leaflet length, leaf/stem ratio) and fresh matter, dry matter and crude protein yields and crude protein content were not affected by the row distance, Plant height (103.2 cm), leaves/main stem (13.23), leaflet length (5.54 cm), leaf/stem ratio (0.86), fresh herbage yield (67.36 t ha(-1)), dry matter yield (12,74 t ha(-1)), crude protein content (18.83 %) and protein yield (1,92 t ha(-1)) were affected by the cutting dates; while the number of shoots (0.52), leaf length (34.68 cm), main stem diameter (8.27 mm) and leaflet width (3.46 cm) were not affected, Consequently; Persian clover can be sown at a seed rate of 10 kg ha(-1) and at 20-50 cm row distances in subtropical regions under dry conditions. However, the highest forage yield and quality were obtained at 3 cm cutting height in the full-bloom stage.
