In this article, our aim was to discus why truth telling is important and how we should explain it during medical practises. To inform patients about their situation, even it is uncomfortable to physician or patient, is essential according to basic ethics principles. The convention of trust between physician and patient is central to the practice of medicine and truth telling fosters trust in the medical profession. Patients should be told the truth because of the respect due to them as persons having right to know important information about themselves. Not telling the truth can harm patients in many ways and may entail deceiving them. Truth telling involves the provision of information not simply to enable patients to make informed choices about health care and other aspects of their lives but also to inform them about their situation. It is possible to tell the truth in a way that should not make a great bad effect on patients. The truth should not be cruel. An effective relationship between the patient and the physician takes away the fear and uncertainty and makes the patient sufficient.en_US
