Özet
Mitoloji, eski toplumların doğaya, insan ilişkilerine, tarihsel olaylarave dine dair inanış ve düşünüşlerini içeren söylemsel bir pratik olaraktanımlanmaktadır. Her kültürün ve ulusun kendi efsaneleri, tanrıları,kahramanları, canavarları ve mucizeleri mitolojik anlatılarda yer almaktadır.İnsanın kendi varlığını ve dünyayı anlamlandırmasında yol gösterici olmaniteliği taşıyan bu mitolojik anlatılar edebiyat, resim, tiyatro, heykel, müzikve sinema gibi alanlarda yeniden üretilerek günümüze kadar varlığını sürdürmüştür.Mitolojiyi ilham kaynağı olarak sıklıkla kullanan sinemada genel eğilim, mitolojik öyküyü birebir uyarlayarak epik-fantastik film türü içinde sunmaktır.Bunun yanı sıra mitolojiye modern yorum getirme çabası taşıyan anlatılar dabulunmaktadır. Ancak mitolojiyi referans alırken hangi yöntem tercih edilirseedilsin, mitolojik metnin iyi/kötü, doğru/yanlış, adalet ve ahlak gibikavramlar hakkındaki ideolojik alt-metinleri değişmemektedir. Çalışmadaamaçlanan; sinemada mitolojinin modern yorumları ve mitolojik metin arasındakiilişkiyi sadakat ve farklılık bağlamında inceleyerek, yeniden yorumlamanınideolojik ve kültürel göndermelerini ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda Nerdesin Be Birader? (2000, yön.Joel amp;Ethan Coen) ve Kutsal GeyiğinÖlümü (2017, yön. Yorgos Lanthimos) filmleri ele alınmıştır.
Mythology is defined as adiscursive practice which involves the beliefs and thoughts of ancientsocieties on nature, human relations, historical events and religion. Eachculture and nation has its own myths, gods, heroes, monsters, and miracles inmythological narratives. These mythological narratives, which are the guidinglights of man's own existence and the meaning of the world, are reproduced in thefields of literature, painting, theater, sculpture, music and cinema andcontinue to survive until today. The general trend in cinema, which often usesmythology as an inspiration source, is to adapt the mythological story andpresent it in an epic-fantasy film genre. Furthermore, there are various formsof narratives which pave the way to creating modern interpretation ofmythology. Nonetheless, even though the preferred methods of using mythologicalreferences vary, the ideological subtexts of the mythological texts which holdconcepts such as good/bad, right/wrong, justice and morality at their coreremain the same. The object of this study is to analyse the relationshipbetween the modern interpretations of mythology in cinema and the mythologicaltext in relation to the concepts of loyalty and difference in order to revealthe ideological and cultural implications of reinterpretation. Within thisframe, the movies O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000, Joel amp; Ethan Coen) andThe Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017, Yorgos Lanthimos) are explored as casestudies. Despite the factthat the movies in question are different in terms of style, atmosphere andstory, both movies manifest common points in terms of ideological associations.
