Özet

Natural disasters due to climate change are one of the most current problems of today. In order to cope with the environmental problems caused /will be caused by climate change, the concept of resilience comes to the fore in the field of design. Resilience is the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions and to absorb negative effects or to increase these abilities. At this point, one of the important features of the resilient system is that it shows resistance to potential risks and threats while at the same time taking advantage of the advantages brought by disruptions. At this point, the vernacular architecture, which is the product of a life based on experiences and contains centuries of construction knowledge, shows resilience in terms of its character. In the study, the concepts of climate change and resilience are explained within the scope of the literature; Vernacular settlements that show resilience are investigated in the context of sustainability and discussed in the context of four vernacular settlements (Puglia/Italy, Harran/Turkey, Matmata/Tunisia and Berat/Albania). © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.
