Özet
İnsanlığın tarih içinde yaşadığı tarım toplumu, sanayi toplumu ve bilgi toplumu dönemlerinde, önem verdiği en önemli husus, ihtiyaçlarının karşılanması anlamında üretim olmuştur. Üretim hem ihtiyaçların karşılanması hem de ekonomik gücün ifadesi anlamında önemli bir işleve sahip olmuştur. Şüphesiz, bunun yanında ayrı bir damar, ayrı bir akım olarak tüketim de varlığını hissettirmiştir. Ancak o dönemlerde tüketimin varlığı cılız bir akarsudan öte geçememiştir. Bilgi toplumu ötesi toplumda, tüketim, tarihin derinliklerinde saklı kalan gücünü ortaya çıkarmıştır. Özellikle post-modernitenin belirsiz yapısı içinde en belirgin olan tüketim ve tüketimin enginliğinde ihtiyaçların isteklere evrilmesi olmuştur. Tüketim toplumu oluşumu, ortaçağın feodal yapısından endüstriyel kapitalizme, oradan fordizm ve post-fordizmle modernizme, oradan post-modernizm ile günümüze ulaşan büyük bir süreç izlemiştir. Tüketim toplumunun dünden bugüne bir anlık bir mesele olmadığı açıktır. Bu tarihsel süreç, geçmişin gizlenmiş şiddetiyle günümüzü ve yarınımızı tehdit etmektedir.
During the agricultural society, the industrial society and the knowledge based society periods within the history of the humankind lived, the most important issue that the humankind gave the importance, in the meaning of meeting his needs, was the production. The production had an important function in terms of both meeting the needs and an expression of economic power. Undoubtedly, besides this, the consumption also made it's presence felt as a seperate vessel and a seperate movement. However, the presence of the consumption at this time, could not go beyond to a feeble stream. In the society beyond the knowledge based society, the consumption, revealed it's hidden power in the depths of the history. Especially, the most appearent things in the uncertain structure of post-modernity were the consumption and the needs turned into the demands within the immenseness of the consumption. The formation of the consumption society followed to a huge process from the medieval feodal structure to industrial capitalism, from there, fordism, modernizm to post-fordism and till post-modernism reaching at our present time. It is clear that the consumer society is not an instant matter from yesterday to today. This historical process threatens our today and tomorrow with the history's hidden violence.
