The aim of this study was to establish a method to prepare "The General Soil Map of Turkey'. In this research the maps at the scale of 1100 000m, which were prepared according to the American Soil Classification System (1938), were surveyed in selected areas and converted to maps which are used as mapping units of the great groups of Soil Taxonomy (1975). The General Soil Map was then prepared by reducing the scale to 1:800 000. According to the results 10 suborders and their 16 great groups were determined relating to the soil orders in Soil Taxonomy. In addition, the researched soils were separated as 18 classes according to the FAO/UNESCO system. In the detailed report the genesis, physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of each great soil group were investigated. -from English summaryen_US
