National and international tourist arrivals have increased since 2012 and by 2018, this number was recorded as 1.4 billion people. By 2020, it has been observed that there is a continuous mobility in tourist arrivals. The continuous increase in these tourist arrivals increases the number of tourist arrivals in tourism destinations in Turkey as well as in many countries around the world. The increase in tourist arrivals in a region has revealed the concept of over tourism. When the tourism literature is examined, it is seen that the effects of over tourism in destinations have been going on for many years, but the concept of over tourism has only recently been included in research. The reason for this has been stated as the increased response to the effects of over tourism. Although the Bozcaada region, which constitutes the universe of this thesis, has been home to the tourism sector for many years, it is possible to state that the effects of over tourism have been seen on the island in recent years. Accordingly, it is possible to say that the local people of Bozcaada are also affected by over tourism. The aim of this research is to examine the concept of extreme tourism and the perceptions and behaviors of the local people of Bozcaada in line with this concept in terms of tourism literature. Within the framework of this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with 19 local people living in Bozcaada by adopting the qualitative research method in the research. The analysis of the data obtained from 19 people was analyzed with the computer aided qualitative analysis program MAXQDA 20. The findings, together with providing information about the status and impact of excessive tourism in Bozcaada destination, revealed the current situation of the tourism sector and the perceptions of the local people about the tourism sector and excessive tourism.
