abstract
The political and geographic integrity of Thrace, which became a part of Turkish country in the course of time, deteriorated at the end of the Balkan war (1912-1913). The Meriç River being its main part, Thrace was divided into two: West Thrace and East Thrace. Taking place near alliance countries and defeated, The Ottoman Empire drew back the war with Mondros Truce. While the country was being occupied and shared according to secret treaties, the Thracian patriots, taking action, founded the Association of Trakya-Paşaeli, which was the first national association. They also pioneered the resistance and organization in the congresses they arranged. After East Thrace was conquered in June 1920 by the Greek Army, they struggled against the Greek soldiers and gangs for months in İğneada, Dereköy, Saray, Çerkezköy, Vize, Pınarhisar, Kırklareli, Muratlı, Babaeski and Edirne by forming armed militia forces. The Greek had to keep two or three divisions in the territory thanks to squads, gangs, hit-and-run attacks and massive resistance organized by patriots from the Association of Trakya Paşaeli. Hence, they supported the national struggle greatly by preventing Greece from reinforcing its forces in Anatolia.
