Öğe EXAMINATION OF PASSIVE COOLING METHODS IN BUILDINGS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2022) Çetintaş, Kemal Ferit; Rezafar, AzadehIt is known that a significant part of the environmental problems is caused by energy and fossil fuel consumption, which are used by the buildings. A significant portion of the energy consumption in the buildings is carried out by heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting in order to provide comfortable conditions inside them. Recently, energy efficiency is on the world agenda for reasons such as economic, sustainability, environmental, and energy supply security. Besides these, cooling energy consumption in the buildings, especially in the hot climate regions, constitutes a significant percentage of the energy consumption. Meeting the cooling energy need from non-renewable energy sources in order to ensure comfort conditions increases the energy cost and the carbon dioxide emission by using fossil fuel consumption. On the other hand, traditional architectural residences by their passive system design reduce cooling energy consumption to a minimum while they provide comfortable conditions. An important portion of passive cooling techniques has been applied in traditional residence architectures, which are located in hot-humid climates, where the cooling need is high. While architectural solutions for these buildings’ passive cooling systems provide energy efficiency without compromising thermal comfort conditions. As well as these solutions give architectural identity to the historical urban areas. The aim of this study is to introduce passive cooling methods and architectural design adaptation solutions. In this scope, the examples of these methods in traditional architectural designs will be examined too.
