Öğe The Effect of Covid-19 Pandemic on Preschoolers' Mental Health in Turkey(Springer, 2023) Dereli, Fatih; Aykutlu, Hasan Cem; Kurtca, Tugba TurkThe aim of this study is to determine the incidence of mental health problems among preschool-age children in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic and investigate the relationship between these problems and pandemic-related factors, considering that the pandemic has impacted society, institutions, families, and family members differently. The research was designed using a descriptive research model while the sample was determined by the maximum diversity sampling method. The participants included 414 parents, and 207 girls and 207 boys aged between 4 and 7 years. The data were obtained through a Demographic Information Form, The Questionnaire of Experience - Thoughts During the Pandemic, and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. The results showed that preschoolers were at risk of experiencing mental health problems during the pandemic. In particular, children who could not attend distance education and were from families that experienced economic difficulties during the pandemic were more likely to have mental health problems. Furthermore, children whose families an incorrect ideas about the pandemic were more likely to exhibit conduct problems. Gender, home location (urban or rural), and the type of school attended (state or private) had no significant association with the children's mental health. Overall, the study shows that preschool children were at risk of mental health problems during the pandemic. The risk factors that may be particularly relevant were also identified.Öğe Examining the Relationship Between Social Support and Social Media Addiction: Role of Self-Esteem(Turkish Green Crescent Soc, 2023) Hatun, Osman; Kurtca, Tugba TurkThis study aimed to investigate the associations between social support, self-esteem, and social media addiction. The participants were 383 (55.09% female) adults aged 18-32 years (M = 21.10, standard deviation = 4.14). Data were collected using the self-report questionnaire. Correlation analysis was conducted to examine the associations between the variables. The Process Macro was employed to investigate the role of selfesteem to explain the relationship between social support and social media addiction. Bootstrap analysis was performed to investigate the significance of the direct and indirect relations between the variables. The findings demonstrated that social media addiction was negatively correlated to both social support and self-esteem, whereas social support was positively correlated to self-esteem. Gender had no significant effect on any of the variables. Even when age and daily hours of social media use were checked as covariates, according to the findings, self-esteem significantly explains how social support and social media addiction are related. Therefore, increased social support and self-esteem may prevent social media addiction.Öğe The Experience of Being the First Client of Novice Counselors in Turkiye From the Client's Perspective(Sage Publications Inc, 2023) Ercevik, Aysegul; Kurtca, Tugba TurkIn this study, we aim to understand the clients' experiences with counselor candidates in Turkiye by examining the meanings that clients attribute to their counseling experiences. Using a qualitative survey, we asked 13 participating clients (2 males, 11 females) questions about meaning attributed to counseling before, during, and after the counseling and their thoughts about the counselor as a candidate and the effects of supervision. A thorough thematic analysis identified four key themes: the counselor being a counselor candidate, before counseling, counseling process, and counseling outcomes. The study showed that the clients were unaffected by the fact that their counselor was being supervised. In addition, we also observed that receiving service from a counselor candidate was seen as an advantage rather than a disadvantage, the counselor candidate was perceived as a competent expert, and the outcome of the counseling process was found satisfactory.Öğe Psychopathy, impulsivity, and internet trolling: role of aggressive humour(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Kurtca, Tugba Turk; Demirci, IbrahimThe aim of this study is first to conduct the reliability and validity analyses of the Turkish adaptation of the online trolling scale. The second aim is to examine online trolling behaviour in the context of psychopathy, which is one of the personality traits of the dark triad. In the first phase, the iTroll Questionnaire was adapted to Turkish. Two hundred thirty-four university students participated in the first part of the study. At this phase, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted. Item Response Theory (IRT) analysis showed that all items of the scale were coherent and fit with the model. The results show that the scale is a reliable and valid measure. The second phase aims to investigate the mediating effect of aggressive humour on the relationship between impulsivity and iTrolling. Two hundred sixty-one adults participated in the second phase of the study. Structural equation modelling was used to examine the mediator role. The results demonstrate that aggressive humour mediates the relationship among psychopathy, impulsivity, and iTrolling. As a result, it appears critical to make trolls aware of the consequences of their actions, as impulsivity and aggressive humour contribute to trolling behaviour.
