Öğe Detection of Epstein Barr virus in Hodgkin's disease in Trakya Region of Turkey; By in situ hybridization(2002) Özdil A.; Do?anay L.; Demir M.; Öz Puyan F.; Bilgi S.The relation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Hodgkin's disease (HD) has been suggested by serologic, epidemiological and molecular biologic studies. According to these studies the incidence of EBV in HD is high. In the present study, the EBV association with HD in Trakya Region of Turkey was investigated. We investigated the presence of EBV in 44 cases of HD. Fluorescein-labelled antisense EBV (EBER-RNA) was performed by in situ hybridization. There were 28 males and 16 females, with a mean age of 40 years (range 4-80 years). Histological subtypes included nodular sclerosis Hodgkin's disease (NSHD) in 18 (40.9%), mixed cellularity (MCHD) in 16 (36.4%), lymphocyte predominance (LPHD) in 7 (15.9%), and lymphocyte depletion (LDHD) in 3 (6.8%). EBV was expressed in 30 cases (68.2%). High EBV association was found with mixed cellularity 75% and nodular sclerosis 72.2%. In lymphocyte predominance and in lymphocyte depletion cases the EBV positivity was 57.1% and 33.3%, respectively. All of 7 cases, younger than 15 years old, were positive for EBV. HD in Trakya Region showed a high association with EBV as in developing countries. Our findings suggest that EBV plays an important role in the pathogenesis of HD in Turkey.Öğe Peutz-Jeghers syndrome combined with breast cancer, cervical carcinoma and ovarian gonadoblastoma: A case report(2004) Tokatli F.; Tunçbilek N.; Öz Puyan F.; Denizli B.; Ibiş K.; Bayir G.; Uygun K.Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is a rare autosomal dominant condition characterized by gastrointestinal polyps, mucocutaneous pigmentation and an increased risk for cancer. In this report, a 34-year-old woman with PJS associated with a rare ovarian tumor (gonadoblastoma) and synchronous breast and cervical carcinoma is discussed and the relevant literature is reviewed. © 2004 Zerbinis Medical Publications.Öğe The prescence of Helicobacter pylori in Meckel's diverticulum of children(2004) Altaner Ş.; Inan M.; Güreşçi S.; Öz Puyan F.; Do?anay L.Aim: Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. Gastric mucosa is usually present in Meckel's diverticulum. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) can also be detected in ectopic or heterotopic gastric mucosa. The aim of this study is to investigate Helicobacter pylori colonization in heterotopic gastric mucosa of Meckel's diverticulum in children. Method: A total of 18 cases who had undergone diverticulectomy at childhood were included in the study to search for the presence of H. pylori in Meckel's diverticulum. The paraffin blocks of all the patients were evaluated and stained with Warthin-Starry silver stain. Result: There were 12 male and 6 female patients with a mean age of 4.7. The most common symptom was abdominal pain (12/18). 10 out of 18 Meckel's diverticulum had heterotopic gastric mucosa. In 6 patients abdominal pain and in 4 of 10 patients rectal bleeding was the main symptom. H. pylori was recognized in 3 of 10 cases which contained gastric mucosa. 2 of these 3 patients who were infected with H. pylori had presented with abdominal pain and 1 patient with rectal bleeding. Conclusion: According to our results we suggest that H. pylori doesn't play a role in the development of ulceration and bleeding in Meckel's diverticulum with heterotopic gastric mucosa.Öğe Pure nongestational choriocarcinoma of the ovary in a child: Case report(2009) Altaner S.; Taştekin E.; Aksu B.; Öz Puyan F.; Kutlu K.A 9-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with abdominal pain and distention due to a complex ovarian mass. An ultrasound scan showed a 7×5×5 cm, intensive fluid loculation and septation in right inferior quadran pericheacecal area. Radiologist reported this massas an abscess formation. The laboratory data showed high serum level of HCG. The level of FSH, estrodiol, LH, total testesteron, androstenodion, CEA, AFP ve 17-OH progesteron were normal. An emergency surgery was planned with these findings. Right salpingoophorectomy, and left ovary wedge resection and lymph node dissection were performed. The right ovary revealed a cystic, necrosis and hemorrhagic tumor with solid parts. The microscopic examination containing wide areas of necrosis and hemorrhagic in which atypical cytotrophoblastic and syncitiotrophoblastic cells are observed. Syncitiotrophoblastic cells was immunohistochemically diffuse positive for HCG. Furthermore, It was focally positive for inhibin and diffuse positive for keratin. CD99, CD30, CEA, NSE, PLAP, AFP were negative. We present a case of a 9-year-old girl diagnosed with pure nongestational choriocarcinoma of the ovary with a review of the literature.Öğe What is your diagnosis?
